Spotify is one of the most popular streaming services in America, and now, the world.

The music streaming service just reached a new milestone – a record 100 million global subscribers on Spotify Premium. Spotify is the first music streaming service to reach this many subscribers for a paid service. Over the last year, it has increased its number of subscribers by 30%.

Spotify reaches an average of 217 million users from around the world. Apple Music, another one of the most popular streaming services, trails behind Spotify by half. To date, Apple Music has about 50 million paid subscribers. This is the next closest service that has anywhere close to the number of users that Spotify does. In the United States alone though, Apple Music has two million more subscribers than Spotify.

Despite the number of paid subscribers Spotify has, it has recently been experiencing a decline in revenue. In the first quarter of this year, Spotify has seen a decrease of $158 million. In the first quarter of 2018, that number was $189 million.

Executives of the company are hoping Spotify can lose its dependence on major record labels and improve its profit margins. The company’s next big goal is to hone in on their podcasts since those are easier to stream than music.
