Stallone demanded his rights back from the series producer, Irwin Winkler.

While actor Sylvester Stallone is considered to be the face of the classic Rocky series of boxing films, Stallone himself does not own the rights to the franchise at all, and as such earns no residuals from his fame. For his appearance in the first film, Stallone was paid a flat rate of $75,000, but did not receive any kind of royalties deal. Stallone has repeatedly demanded residuals from his roles in the series from its producer, Irwin Winkler, making his frustration public once again over the weekend.

In an Instagram post which featured a drawing of Winkler as a snake-like creature, Stallone said that he wants his rights to the films so he would have something to pass to his children.

“After IRWIN controlling ROCKY for over 47 years, and now CREED, I really would like have at least a little WHAT’s LEFT of my RIGHTS back, before passing it on to ONLY YOUR CHILDREN – I believe That would be a FAIR gesture from this 93 year old gentleman,” Stallone captioned the post. “This is a painful subject That eats at my soul, because I wanted to leave something of Rocky for my children, but it’s always great hearing from the loyal fans… Keep Punching.”

Stallone still receives no residuals from any Rocky-related profits or productions, including the recent Creed films.
