A 7-year-old girl is still recovering in the hospital today after she was involved in a hit-and-run on Mother’s Day in Park Ridge, Illinois.

Despite her stable condition, she is dealing with significant injuries, like several broken bones.

The accident is said to have happened around 1 PM when the girl was riding her bicycle on the way to a nearby friend’s house. That’s when a black Dodge pickup hit her and simply kept on going. Police say the driver abandoned his truck about a mile and a half away and then ran off.

The girl was airlifted to Lutheran General Hospital.

It is not clear whether authorities were able to use license plate on the truck to track down the whereabouts of the man, or even if the truck was in his name.

One neighbor, Matthew Hadley, expressed his support for the family: “My heart and prayers are with you. I hope everything turns out for the best and I hope whoever did this gets brought to justice.”

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact them immediately.

Fortunately, the girl’s family says she is expected to make a full recovery, but she will likely be in the hospital for days, possibly even weeks.
