James Jordan has been captured after his terrifying attack.

James Jordan was arrested Saturday because of his alleged connection with the brutal attack on the Appalachian Trail that left one hiker dead and another severely injured. The 30-year-old Massachusetts man was accused of attacking the two hikers with a machete.

Thanks to the quick thinking of one of the victims, authorities were able to locate Jordan along the trail in Southwestern Virginia. The victim, who later died, sent an emergency notification on his cell phone.

In April, Jordan was arrested on assault charges in Tennessee after threatening hikers on the trail with a knife. He pleaded guilty and ended up receiving probation. However, he wound up back on the trails again.

Hostel owner Larry Riddle says, “I’ve had customers, you know, back before this even happened. I had a couple guys who stayed with me and they told me he came into their camp and he was running his mouth.”

Police says a female victim who was injured had to walk six miles while injured and bleeding before she found other hikers and asked for help.

The woman who was attacked has not been identified, nor has the male victim who died as a result of his injuries.
