An influx of immigrants are making their way to South Florida due to an order from President Trump himself.

Hundreds of immigrants are expected to arrive in Palm Beach and Broward Counties in as little as two weeks, leaving officials scrambling to prepare. They say this will undoubtedly put a strain on their resources.

The first 500 immigrants will be processed at the US Customs and Border Protection. It’s unclear if any of them will have a place to stay or family that live nearby.

Palm Beach County is expecting 500 people per month to arrive by plane from Texas. County leaders say shelters are already at capacity with the maintenance of the livelihood of thousands of homeless people. They say they simply don’t have the space to house even more people.

Immigration advocates are offering a hand to try to help in any way possible. However, even they say they’ll need extra assistance from volunteers, like donations, to meet that need. It’s not clear how long this influx will be happening for.

South Texas went through similar immigration influxes several years ago during the height of the DACA immigration crisis when thousands of immigrant children from Central and South America made their way across the border without their parents. This put a strain on many of the area’s resources and required lots of help from external sources to get the situation under control.
