Mulaney is successfully sober and on his way back to the stage.

Back in December of 2020, standup comedian, Saturday Night Live alum, and star of Netflix’s Big Mouth, John Mulaney, checked himself into rehab following relapse with his addiction to alcohol. According to his family, this relapse was brought on by stresses related to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the month leading up to this, Mulaney made several appearances on Late Night With Seth Meyers, though according to Mulaney himself, this was more of a means of stress relief than anything else.

“Rather than [Seth Meyers] saying to me, ‘John, you’re clearly going through something, but your jokes are terrible,’ he’s given me a couple segments to come on and do what I wrote, and those have been really, really fun,” he said on Jimmy Kimmel Live at the time.

After starting his rehab in December, Mulaney successfully completed his 60-day period followed by outpatient sober care. Now, as of this month, he’s officially ready to get back on the stage. He announced yesterday that from May 10 to May 14, he’ll be running his new standup show From Scratch at the City Winery in New York City.

To attend the show, patrons must be either fully vaccinated or confirmed COVID-19 negative prior. Phones also won’t be allowed in to prevent recording. In spite of these requirements, all five days are already completely sold out, though a waiting list has opened up for anyone looking to get a last minute seat. No word has been given yet as to whether From Scratch will be made available in a digital format like Mulaney’s previous shows Kid Gorgeous and New in Town.
