Griffin will have part of her left lung removed after a lung cancer diagnosis.

Comedian and actress Kathy Griffin announced on her personal Twitter page today that she had been diagnosed with lung cancer, and would be undergoing surgery to have her left lung removed.

“Yes, I have lung cancer even though I’ve never smoked!” she tweeted. “The doctors are very optimistic as it is stage one and contained to my left lung. Hopefully no chemo or radiation after this and I should have normal function with my breathing.” According to Griffin’s doctors, she should be able to make a full recovery in about a month’s time.

“It’s been a helluva 4 years, trying to get back to work, making you guys laugh and entertaining you, but I’m gonna be just fine,” Griffin wrote, alluding to the incident in 2017 when she posted a gruesome depiction of then-president Donald Trump on her Twitter, costing her her position as co-host of CNN’s New Year’s Eve coverage.

Following Griffin’s announcement, many fans, as well as her friends in showbusiness, wished her luck with surgery and a speedy recovery. “A major, scary ordeal but they will remove it and you will be just fine,” wrote actress Mia Farrow. “In the meantime I will keep you in my prayers dear Kathy.”

Griffin also received a message of support from the Twitter of LBGTQ rights advocacy group GLAAD. “Sending you love and support, @kathygriffin,” they wrote.
