An anonymous mother in Michigan is taking action against inattentive school staff.

A mother in Wayne County, Michigan is suing officials at her daughter’s charter school, Keystone Academy, after school staff failed to take her fourth grade daughter’s complaints of sexual harassment and assault seriously.

According to the woman’s attorney, the girl told her mother a boy in her class had been touching her and other classmates in a sexual manner. In addition, she confesses he’d been touching her inappropriately on her upper thighs, slapping her butt, and making overtly sexual comments to both her and a friend back in October.

The mother took immediate action after hearing about this from her daughter. After multiple unanswered complaints via email to school officials, she filed a lawsuit against National Heritage Academies, a Grand Rapids-based charter network that oversees Keystone Academy.

Though local Detroit news station WXYZ attempted to reach out to National Heritage Academies, they had no comment. Instead, school officials released a statement saying the safety of their students was of the utmost importance.

The mother has since taken her daughter out of Keystone Academy and is now homeschooling her. She has not returned to the institution since the lawsuit was officially underway.

The charter school retaliated by filing a civil suit against the mother on Wednesday.
