Robbins’ family confirmed he committed suicide.

This week, the family of Peter Robbins, veteran actor and original voice of Peanuts character Charlie Brown, confirmed that he had committed suicide last week to FOX 5 news. He was 65 years old.

Robbins was known to live with multiple mental health complications, including bipolar disorder and paranoid schizophrenia. These complications led to regular incidents of concerning behavior in Robbins, with one standout example being in 2015 when he was sentenced to prison for four years after making multiple criminal threats to various people.

When he was released from prison in 2019, he spoke to FOX 5’s Phil Blauer, a close friend of his, about dealing with his mental health. “I would recommend to anybody that has bipolar disorder to take it seriously because your life can turn around in the span of a month like it did to me. I came out of prison and I’m a better person for it. I’m much more humble and grateful and thankful that I lived through the experience.”

Robbins family is asking for privacy from the public to grieve for his passing. A memorial service will be held at an undetermined point in the future.

In an additional statement after his passing, Blauer offered up a few words. “I will always treasure his nickname for me,” he said. “He used to call me ‘Scoop.’ Rest in peace Charlie Brown, say hi to Linus for me up in heaven.”
