Apple CEO Tim Cook says that Apple is not expected to be a trade war target among the Chinese.

The growing concern is both in regards to the consumer and Apple. For instance, because the iPhone is an expensive device, a 25% tariff (the tax the Chinese are now placing on all American products) could result in a $160 price increase for the iPhone. That would not only affect the pockets of the consumer, but also the sales of Apple.

Cook says, “I’m hoping that doesn’t happen. The truth is the iPhone is made everywhere. So a tariff on the iPhone would hurt all those countries, but the one that would be hurt the most is this one.”

Cook went on to say that he and President Trump have had very straightforward conversations about the future of Apple and where he sees the company going.

Cook says, “He listens to the comments, which I appreciate. Sometimes he doesn’t agree. But my philosophy on things is that you always engage.”

Apple has been very transparent with their relations with the government. Cook says keeping open lines of communication with the White House has been very helpful in terms of conflict-resolution.
