The White House is trying several avenues of attack to keep the economy stimulated.

As numerous businesses lose their customer bases to coronavirus isolation, the United States government has been working on a package to stimulate key points of the economy. Currently, negotiations are underway to deploy an $850 billion stimulus package to various businesses who are losing money, with $50 billion of that money planned specifically for the airline industry, which is one of the hardest hit.

In addition to this stimulus package, however, a new plan has surfaced through Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin. According to Mnuchin, the Trump Administration is considering sending cash payments out to every American citizen to help pay for whatever expenses accrue during isolation, as well as prompt additional spending for the economy’s sake.

“We’re looking at sending checks to Americans immediately,” Mnuchin said at a White House press breifing. “Americans need cash now, the president wants to get cash now. I mean now—in the next few weeks.”

Senate Republicans are currently in talks with the White House over the matter. If the package is approved, every American citizen could receive a check for around $1,000 as early as April, though Mnuchin added that individual incomes could play a role in how much someone actually receives.

In addition to these packages, Mnuchin announced that the deadline for tax payments has been extended 90 days from its usual spot on April 15, though he did encourage everyone to file as early as possible so as to receive refunds quickly.

“We encourage Americans who can file taxes to continue to file taxes on April 15 because for many Americans, you will get tax refunds and we don’t want you to lose out on those tax refunds,” Mnuchin said.
