It’s now been a week since Minnesota’s new hands-free driving law went into effect.

State troopers say they’re a little frustrated because of the 500 people they’ve had to pull over despite their efforts.

Officials say 500 is probably on the low end as far as the reality of the people who have been caught. In other words, that is just the amount of drivers state troopers have pulled over. That number doesn’t include all drivers; it doesn’t account for the 400 other agencies that are also enforcing the rule across the state.

The first day, St. Paul Police pulled over 28 drivers who were operating their vehicles hands-free. Since then, that number has increased to 150 drivers in St. Paul holding their phones.

Minneapolis Police hasn’t released its numbers yet, but they say they are enforcing the law. However, they say they caught a man recently who was streaming the drama series ‘Blue Bloods’ on his phone.

Ironically, a woman in Eagan was caught texting about the new hands-free law on the first day of the rule’s implementation.

Hudson, Wisconsin has also recently put a new hands-free ordinance in place. That’s important to keep in mind when you’re crossing state lines because the rules may not necessarily be different.

The cost of the ticket is $98.
