The housing market has yet to bounce back from its mid-2000s pop.

This is a time when many millennials are approaching their 30s and therefore reaching major milestones in their lives: marriage, children, and first-time home purchasing. But there’s one problem: many of the homes these millennials are looking for are either too far out of their price range or they’re simply too big for what’s needed at the moment.

Realtors across the country are noticing a trend that the Baby Boomer generation is responsible for many of the houses that are on the market today. Now that most Baby Boomers are reaching the retirement age, many of them want to downsize. After all, with most of their children being adults now, they’re no longer living at home. However, some of the Boomers are noticing that it’s been difficult to sell their properties right away.

On the flip side, millennials are saying that even with apps on their phone to help make the home-buying process easier, it’s been difficult to come across houses that satisfy both their budget and amenity choices. Some of the more prevalent homes on the market are Tuscan-style and have more open space. One realty expert says these types of houses are designed for partying and entertaining. Unfortunately for the Baby Boomers trying to sell these houses, many millennials are trying to steer away from that lifestyle now.

Only time will tell before the market picks back up.
