Frank James will be appearing in court today.

On Tuesday, a man activated a smoke bomb and opened fire with a semiautomatic pistol in a Brooklyn subway train, injuring 10 people with gunshot wounds and 19 with other related injuries, before fleeing the scene. Five of the injured still remain hospitalized, but there have been no fatalities as of writing. Following the incident, NYPD immediately launched a manhunt to find the suspect, identified as 62-year-old Frank James.

On Wednesday afternoon, after a 30-hour investigation, James was successfully tracked down and arrested by NYPD officers without further incident. “We were able to shrink his world quickly. There was nowhere left for him to run,” Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell said during a news conference.

As they were tracking James, investigators discovered a storage unit in James’ name filled with firearms and ammunition, which James is believed to have visited prior to the incident. A search of his social media presence also uncovered numerous videos where James went on long rants filled with racist, explicit language.

James is slated to appear in court later today, where he will face a charge of violating laws related to acts of terrorism and violence on public transit systems. If found guilty for this charge, James could serve life in prison.

“Like all New Yorkers, I am deeply grateful that the suspect in yesterday’s subway shooting has been apprehended and thankful for law enforcement and every first responder whose heroic efforts helped New York City respond to this horrific incident,” New York Governor Kathy Hochul said Wednesday. “My heart is with all those who are injured, their loved ones, and the entire Sunset Park community.”
