Somehow, AirPods have become a status. It’s unclear exactly when it happened, but it definitely has become a thing. If your headphones have cords attached, you are now lesser. Well there may be a new challenger to that status symbolism.

Samsung announced that it will be releasing the Galaxy Buds, a wireless bluetooth headphone meant to compete with Apple’s AirPods. The Buds will have many of the same features as the AirPod but comes at a slightly lower price point: $129 versus the AirPods’ $159.

The look is slightly different, rounder and without the little tails AirPods have. They’re also available in more colors, if that’s important to you. One cool feature of the Buds is only available if you also have a Galaxy S10 phone – you can charge the Buds wirelessly just by placing them on the phone. Pretty cool… if you have the S10.

One of the major differences is that the AirPods seem to only work with iOS devices, while Galaxy Buds will work better with Android devices, particularly Samsung devices, but seem to be able to work with iOS as well. So really only Apple users have a choice between the two.

But let’s be honest, most people are pretty invested in which ecosystem they’re in. Few people are going to switch it up over headphones.
