A California dad got more than a fill-up at the gas station.

“I’ve been in the delivery room, but I had never delivered anything,” said a third-time dad who delivered his baby boy for the first time in a Chevron gas station parking lot in Poway, California.

The father was on the phone with 911 to guide his wife through the labor process. He says there was no way they were going to be able to make it to the hospital, despite the fact that it was only about 10 minutes from the gas station.

“We thought she was less further along than she was and the baby wanted to come out. There was nothing we could’ve done,” said dad Bill Sudzuk with a laugh.

Sudzuk said the baby wasn’t due for 11 more days, but his wife started having contractions overnight around 2 AM. According to Sudzuk’s wife, she felt the baby coming quickly so they immediately got in the car to head to the hospital.

That’s when Sudzuk and his wife pulled over at the gas station and Sudzuk got on the phone with paramedics to help deliver a healthy baby boy named Simon Marshall.

Eventually, medics came in an ambulance to bring both mother and child to the hospital and do a thorough checkup.
